Nat Geo Explorer: Hostage Crisis Massacre

Client: National Geographic Explorer
Role: Director of Photography
Format: HD (Varicam and Canon 5D)
Locations: Manila, Philippines; Hong Kong, NYC, NY

In 2010, Micah Fink and I traveled to the Philippines and to Hong Kong to film this story of how one man armed with a gun can create an 11-hour international media spectacle, played out live on television. The film explores a high-stakes hostage negotiation that to this day, offers stark lessons on what can go wrong when the police negotiators lose control and the media takes over. As ratings soar, innocent lives hang in the balance.
