This was PUAB at its documentary best! We shot this episode all hand held and up close to bring the mood of the viewer directly to the local communities: into our host’s homes, into a coal mine 5 miles deep, and even onto a local high school football field to witness a ‘come-from-behind” victory for the ages. It was an amazing experience, and the town welcomed us with open arms and heartfelt hospitality. Our hosts were warm, and open, which our shooting style embraced and our goal of bringing CNN/PUAB.America “in” to smalltown Appalachia, USA: a misunderstood, wrongly maligned, and broken-hearted place. We changed some minds and this episode helped burst the liberal “bubble” of uppity correctness that we all feel is part of our political rancor tearing America apart. Bringing people together and Appalachia identity were strong themes we addressed here..
